Intumescent coatings

In modern architecture, such as public buildings and cutting-edge industrial plants built on steel or concrete structures, polyphosphates from Budenheim are used in paints and coatings. They stabilise the strength of the substrate in the event of a fire, therefore ensuring maximum safety for people.

After a critical temperature limit of 500 ºC, the strength of steel quickly starts to deteriorate. Intumescent coatings begin to foam and carbonise at about 200 ºC to create a thermally insulated layer. This can delay the rise to the critical temperature limit by several hours. The halogen-free flamer retardants from Budenheim do not emit any toxic or environmentally hazardous smoke - important factors for maximum safety for people.

In a similar way, intumescent fire protection is also used to seal and coat concrete beams and fire walls.

Special phosphates from Budenheim are used in flame retardant coatings based on water or solvents. They combine well with epoxy resins, and are also used in exterior areas due to their low water solubility.
Special phosphates are also highly suitable for use in acrylic systems thanks to their excellent dispersability.

For steel construction, Budenheim also offers special combinations of polyphosphates, synergists and other phosphates. These products guarantee improved stability and adhesion, excellent homogeneity and a fine cell structure to yield an even higher insulating effect in the event of fire.
